Dacoits kill couple

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, May 17 (UNI) A group of dacoits armed with sharp weapons struck three localities in Jintur town of Parbhani district, killing an elderly couple and injuring several others, before escaping from the scene.

According to police sources, the dacoits yesterday attacked several houses before forcing their entry into the house of Madhav Appa Sopankar (50) in Gulshan Colony by breaking open the window.

When he tried to resist their attempt, they brutally assaulted him and his wife Mangala with sharp weapons, killing them on the spot.

The attack prompted strong reactions from the residents who took the bodies of the couple to the police station demanding arrest of the culprits and action against the police official in-charge of the police station.

Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Chavaria assured the people that the police have launched a man-hunt to arrest the dacoits, sources added.
