Asom Congress congratulates PM on election to RS

New Delhi, May 18: A delegation of Congress leaders from Asom today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and congratulated him on his election to the Rajya Sabha from the North-Eastern state.

The delegation included MPs from the state led by Union Minister Santosh Mohan Deb and Mr Bhubaneshwar Kalita, President Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and Mr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratidude to the state the people of for once again supporting him and renewing their trust in him and said it has been an honour to represent Asom in the Rajya Sabha since 1991.

Dr Singh said in the past three years representatives from various states had offered to elect him to Parliament, but he chose to remain faithful to his adopted state of Asom.

He asked the delegation to convey his best wishes to all MLAs and the people of Asom.
