4 drown in river

Mangalore, May 18 (UNI) Three girls and a youth drowned in River Netravathy near Thumbe Bridge today.

Police said the deceased were among 19 people who had came for a picnic to Thumbe Bridge.

The incident occurred when two girls went to wash their hands before lunch and slipped into the water. The other girl and their instructor who went to their rescue also slipped into the river.

The girls had just completed a nine-month beautician's course, they added.
