A day after rains, mercury drops to 36.3 Deg C

New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) A day after sudden burst of heavy rainfall brought down the maximum temperature by 14 degrees Celsius, cool Southerly winds continued to provide Delhiites relief from scorching heat with the mercury dropping to 36.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal.

The Easterly winds plummeted the maximum temperature from 40.6 degrees C yesterday to 36.3 degrees C.

The minimum temperature also dropped to 23 degrees Celsius, a drop of eight degrees from yesterday morning.

A sudden burst of rainfall hit Delhi last evening, bringing people relief from the scorching heat during the past 24 hours.

Weathermen said 21.3 mm of rainfall was recorded till this morning.

Following the rains and squall, people of Delhi this morning woke up to a pleasant weather with skies being overcast.

The weathermen attribute the fresh spell of rains and thundershowers in Delhi to the influence of an upper air circulation over Punjab.

The coolness in the air is likely to persist for the next two days with the weathermen forecasting more rain and thundershowers, accompanied by squalls in Delhi, during the next 48 hours.

More rainfall is also expected in Delhi towards the beginning of the next week under the influence of a fresh Western disturbance.

The met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with the likelihood of rain or thundershowers accompanied by squalls in some areas.

They have also forecast a maximum temperature of 38 degrees C tomorrow.
