New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) For the second consecutive day today, the scorching heat of the Sun left Delhiites "in a sweat" even though the mercury dropped to 40.6 degrees Celsius, from the season's highest of 42.7 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Though the maximum of 40.6 Degree Celsius was normal temperature at this time of the year, the heat caused sweltering conditions, forcing people of Delhi to remain ensconced in the comfort of their homes or offices.

Earlier this morning, Delhiites woke up to a warm morning with the minimum shooting up to 31 degrees C, four degrees above normal, from 27.5 degrees C yesterday.

After cool weather for the last over a week, scorching heat conditions returned to torment Delhiites yesterday as the mercury shot up to the highest for the season.

Some relief from the heat could, however, be in offing towards the weekend with the weathermen forecasting duststorms and thunderstorms, some of them accompanied by thundersqualls, in Delhi and other parts of Northwest India during the next 48 hours under the influence of a fresh Upper air circulation.

In fact, weathermen have also forecast a drop in day temperature in the Northwest region during the next few days.

The weather office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with likelihood of rain and thundershowers accompanied by squall in some areas.

They have also forecast a drop in maximum temperature tomorrow to 39 degrees C.
