The house that Sukhdev lived in

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) The Government is planning to turn the house of revolutionary Sukdev into a memorial.

''The Government is seized of the matter and it is being looked into by the National Integration Council,'' Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said in the Lok Sabha today.

He was replying to Mr Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJD) who had raised the issue during Zero Hour.

''The Government is celebrating the 150 years of the First War of Independence and the birth centenary of Bhagat Singh.... Sukhdev was part of the famous trio of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev whose birth centenary falls today,'' Mr Mahtab said.

It would be befitting to the great revolutionay on this day that his house in Ludhiana was restored and preserved as a memorial, he added.

He also demanded that a memorial be erected in the Andaman Islands to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Cellular Jail.
