Son-in-law burnt

Raisen, MP, May 15 (UNI) A man sustained severe burn injuries when he was set on fire by his wife and father-in-law at Gairatganj area in this district, police said today.

Superintendent of Police Jairam Raghuvanshi said Nawal Singh's wife Anita and father-in-law Ganesh Ram had been arrested.

The duo poured kerosene on Nawal and set him on fire yesterday.

Nawal has been admitted to Hamidia hospital in the state capital in serious condition.

In his statement before the Magistrate, Nawal said his wife and father-in-law tried to burn him because of family dispute.

Later, both of them fled.

Nawal used to live with Anita at his father-in-law's house.

The family used to eke out living by working as labourer.

On the other hand, Anita said it was her second marriage. After the marriage, she was often beaten up by her drunk husband, who used to threaten to commit suicide by hanging.

Anita claimed that Nawal had poured kerosene on himself and set himself on fire. When he cried for help, she rushed to him and put down the fire with the help of water. Later, she also also applied medicines.

Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and begun investigation.
