Tiruchirapalli, May 15 (UNI) Security was stepped up in the Ordnance Factory Tiruchirapalli (OFT), following an anonymous call today, threatening to blow up the defence unit manufacturing small arms.

According to police, an employee stationed at the main gate of the small arms factory, who received the call was informed that powerful bombs were planted inside the workshop.

The OFT authorities immediately alerted the police, who along with Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad carried out a thorough check in the premises.

The Defence Security Corps, who look after the security of the unit also scanned the entire factory complex, but no explosives were found.

The work in the factory was not affected following the bomb threat, police said.

Meanwhile, OFT sources told UNI that a high-level defence delegation had come to the factory to inspect the the advanced version of the 'Multi-Grenade Launcher (MGL) and Under-Barrel Grenade launcher (UBGL),' the high-power lethal weapons developed by the OFT for the armed forces.

The sources said it might be the handiwork of some mischievous elements to create a disturbance in the workshop on the eve of the testing of the weapons.

A similar threat was received by the workshop four years ago when the authorities were preparing to test fire some indigenously developed small arms, the sources added.
