Rs 75 lakh approved for Sri dashmesh Academy
Chandigarh, May 15 (UNI) A meeting of Board of Governors of Sri Dasmesh Academy, Anandpur Sahib which met here today under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal approved a grant of Rs 65 lakh for the smooth functioning of the academy in addition to Rs 10 lakh from Chief Minister's discretionary fund for the repair and maintenance of the building.
A spokesman of the Punjab Government said that the Chief Minister constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ropar to dispose of approximate 9 acre of the academy land outside the Tarapur road which was unmanageable and not required by academy anymore.
The funds generated from the sale of land would be utilised as endowment fund for the upkeep of the building. It was also informed in the meeting that the state government would take effective steps to recover the endowment funds deposited by the academy with various agencies.
Taking part in the deliberations, Lt.Gen. Daljeet Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command suggested the Chief Minister to explore the possibility of converting this academy into a Sainik School or Army Public School with the Ministry of Defence as it had an excellent infrastructure and building.
