Ramdev warns Union Government about Yoga Patent
Shimla, May 15 (UNI) Baba Ramdev, founder of Patanjalli Yoga Peeth, today warned the Centre about attempts by foreign-based elements to get a patent on India's ancient heritage of Yoga.
Speaking at a press conference here today, Baba Ramdev, in Himachal for his week-long Yoga Camp at Jathiadevi from May 17, said it was deplorable that some ''non-serious yoga practitioners were making the move to patent Yoga, the 200 year-old Indian system of total well-being and the Centre was doing nothing to counter the move''.
While stressing that as an individual he was opposed to patenting Yoga, Baba Ramdev made it clear that in case the Indian Government remained passive in the matter, his organisation would act swiftly to counter the move.
He lashed out at the Union health Ministry and accused it of ''failing to do anything constructive to save the age-old Indian system of Yoga from the clutches of money-makers.'' Baba Ramdev said Patanjali Yoga Peeth would be ready within three years with an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore with public participation through Yoga camps.
He said his clincal research on cure of Cancer through yoga will be released soon under the title, 'Vigyain ki Kasauti par yoga'.
He said this work was based upon clinical trials on 15000 samples.
He claimed that yoga was also effective in curing bone and pituitary cancers.
However, he acceded that Allopathy was effective in emergency and for surgery and there was no alternative for it at such times.
