Mamata and Left clash over Nandigram issue in LS
New Delhi, May 15: The Lok Sabha today witnessed a shouting match between Trinamool Congress Leader Mamata Banerjee, supported by the Opposition NDA, and the Left parties over the Nandigram issue, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for lunch 15 minutes ahead of schedule.
Ms Banerjee, who had earlier created a ruckus during Question Hour when she was refused to raise the issue, referred to the farmers' plight in Nandigram, West Bengal, during Zero Hour while speaking on the scrapping of the Land Acquisition Act.
This prompted Left party members to stand on their feet and counter Ms Banerjee, bringing the BJP and other NDA supporters to the rescue of the Trinamool party leader.
The pandemonium continued despite Speaker Somnath Chatterjee stating that Nandigram cannot be mentioned as it was a state subject.
When all his efforts to restore order failed, he adjourned the House at around 1245 hrs.
