Chennai, May 15 (UNI) The draft electoral rolls for the revision process, with January 1 this year as the qualifying date, will be published on May 25 and the final rolls on July 11.

The Chief Electoral Officer, in a release here today, said the last date for filing claims and objections was June 11.

This schedule underwent some modifications in view of the delay in completion of the work relating to preparation of photo rolls.

The electoral rolls to be published would have the images of voters.

Overall, the percentage of images in relation to electorate size had reached 94 per cent, with all the districts exceeding 90 per cent, except Chennai where the coverage was only 75 per cent in view of certain special problems like images not being available for nearly two lakh electors although EPIC numbers were there in the database and wrong assignment of the same EPIC number for different voters.

The operation of mopping up of images of the residual electors in Chennai would continue till almost cent percent coverage was reached, the release said.

During the course of preparing photo rolls, several lakhs of surplus names in the rolls were identified and deleted to prevent impersonation and bogus voting, it said.

The release said that for Madurai West Assembly constituency, where bypoll was due following the death of AIADMK rebel member S V Shanmugham, verification of claims had been completed and the final rolls were likely to be published tomorrow. This work got delayed in view of the detection of a large number of multiple and ineligible or false claims for registration in rolls.
