CSFI launches Regional Committee in AP

Visakhapatnam, May 15(UNI) The Crime Stoppers Foundation India(CSFI) a non-profit, non-governmental charitable trust today formed its Regional Committee here to act as a facilitator between the police and public by passing on information about various crimes and help its reduction.

The Andhra Pradesh former Inspector General of Police and Director of Forensic Science Laboratories KPC Gandhi said the people in general avoid approaching police with the information they had for various reasons.

He said the identity of people sharing information with CSFI would not be disclosed.

Mr Gandhi was instrumental in launching the organisation in India on March 12, with Hyderabad as its headquarters and had been coordinating it. Crime Stoppers was first started in the USA in 1976 by a police officer and at present it was set up in 20 countries, he added.

The former Chief Justice of India M N Venkatchalaiah, the former Law Commission Chairman M Jaganatha Rao, the former Chairman of Bar Association of India D V Subba Rao and Centre for Policy Studies Director A Prasanna Kumar, were among others as its members.
