Arunachal Dy Speaker urges DC to maintain status quo
Itanagar, May 15 (UNI) A delegation from Arunachal Pradesh have urged the Delimitation Commission (DC) chairman to maintain status quo of all 60 assembly constituencies as decided by state cabinet, Deputy Speaker Takar Marde informed today.
The delegation comprising Mr Marde, MP Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao yesterday called on the DC chairman Justice (retd) Kuldeep Singh to restore all assembly constituencies excluded in the draft proposal.
Following the request, Justice Singh have assured to re-examine 'genuine' cases by considering the views of the masses during public hearings, Mr Marde said.
The DC would reconsider the population criteria, administrative inconvenience, geographical contiguity and communication bottlenecks caused by the draft proposal in most of the constituencies of this tribal-dominated hilly state, he stated.
'' I have requested to restore four assembly constituencies of Daporijo, Nacho, Taliha and Dumporijo in Upper Subansiri district,'' Mr Marde added.
The state government as well as former Chief Minister Gegong Apang have advocated not to disturb any of the 60 constituencies and maintaining status quo.
