357 candidates in fray for MMC polls

Nashik, May 15 (UNI) As many as 357 candidates are in the fray for the 72-seat Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) polls.

These include 301 candidates from various political parties and 56 independents.

Of the 438 candidates who had filed the nominations for the 72 wards, 80 withdrew on the last day of withdrawal yesterday, taking the total 358. Of these, Asif Shaikh from ward number 12 is the only candidate from there.

After Mr Shaikh being elected unopposed, polling will, therefore, be held in 71 wards and 357 candidates will contest the seats.

The candiates include Shiv Sena (21), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (13), BJP (10), Samjwadi Party (23), NCP (42), Congress (69), JD (57), Indian Muslim Congress Party (52), RPI (2), People's Republican Party (2), CPI(M) (2), Muslim League (2), BSP (6) and independents (56).
