15 Lankan refugees resort to hunger strike
Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, May 15 (UNI) As many as 15 Lankan refugees embarked on a hunger strike at a special camp in old Chengalpattu prison this morning, demanding that they be sent back to the island nation.
According to Q-branch police officials, the refugees, lodged in the special camp, were among 41 such people arrested at Mandapam for indulging in smuggling activities.
On information, Q-branch police officials from Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu Tahsildar and Chengalpattu police officers rushed to the special camp and appealed the refugees to withdraw the agitation. However, the refugees refused to listen to them.
