Truth Commission for J
New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) President of All India Muslim Majlis e-Mushawarat Syed Shahabuddin today urged the Centre to set up a Truth and Justice Commission for Jammu and Kashmir, consisting of eminent jurists, academicians and human rights activists.
It should be chaired by a retired Chief Justice of India, he said in a statement here.
He said the proposed Commission should have the mandate of inviting the next of kin and community leaders to come forward and record their evidence, on both excesses by security forces and militant violence. It should also look into quantum of compensation for loss of life, limb, honour and property and the progress in identifying and punishing culprits, he said.
