TN Assembly adjours sine die
Chennai, May 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly was today adojurned sine die after a 41-day long marathon budget session.
Speaker R Avudaiyappan adjourned the Assembly after Leader of the House K Anbazhagan moved a resolution to this effect.
The session began with the Governor's Address on January 20 and went on till January 27.
The House met again on March 22 and the Budget was presented by Finance Minister K Anbazhagan, the next day.
The House had passed 51 demands for grants for various departments in 26 days.
The House witnessed the historic golden jubilee of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in the State legislature, with Governor S S Barnala and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee delivering special felicitation address.
During the session, the House passed important legislation like setting up welfare boards for fishermen and disabled, allowing import of foreign liquor and setting up Anna universities in Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli and Tirunelveli.
On the final day today, the Opposition AIADMK moved a no-confidence motion against Speaker R Avudayappan, which was however, defeated by voice vote.
