TDP workers stage dharna at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) Telugu Desam workers led by party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu today staged a sit in protest at Jantar Mantar to protest the injustice caused to the state by allowing in ''illegal'' dam upstream of Srirama Sagar Project on Godavari river by Maharashtra.

About 2000 workers and farmers supporting the TDP arrived by a special train to take part int he Dharna in their effort to bring pressure on the Centre to take note of the problems caused by the 'illegal' dam construction.

The meeting was addressed by several TDP leaders including Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party leaders Yerran Naidu, C Ramachandraiah, former TDP minister Devendra Goud, N Janardhana Reddy and B Sreenivasa Reddy. They criticised A P Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy and asked him to recongise the hardship caused to the farmers and people of the state by the upstream project even though Congress headed the Central Government as well as the Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh government.

The leaders have also sought appointments from President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to apprise them about the hardship caused to the people of the state.
