Swarn Samaj Party lauds UP electorate
Indore, May 14 (UNI) Felicitating the Uttar Pradesh electorate for giving the BSP a clear majority in the recent assembly hustings, Swarn Samaj Party President Archana Shrivastav said the mandate proved that the voters wished to be liberated from casteism.
''It has also been proved that a stable government has to be founded on social harmony. The BSP, which initially used objectionable language against the Swarn Samaj, obtained majority in Uttar Pradesh only after it adopted a stance of respect for these classes,'' she told reporters yesterday.
Claiming that the outcome made it evident that reservation was not needed in this country, Ms Shrivastav pointed out that the Congress -- which vociferously advocated reservation -- bagged even fewer seats than in the previous poll.
''The public has realised that those political parties and leaders advocating reservation neither favour the intellectual and social development of the reserved category nor wish to include it in the social mainstream. Such political parties want to perpetuate reservation merely for the sake of votes but that is fuelling casteism,'' she explained.
