Senior IIS officer Sanjaya Rout passes away

Cuttack, May 14: Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer and Additional Director General of Directorate of Field Publicity, Bhubaneswar, Sanjaya Kumar Rout passed away early this morning following a massive heart attack.

Mr Rout 49. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.

He was the Director News of Bhubaneswar Doordarshan Kendra and recently promoted to Deputy Director General rank and transferred to Field Publicity Division.

Family sources said Rout complained of severe chest pain early this morning and was soon taken to the S C B Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

A 1984 batch of IIS, Rout has started his career in the All India Radio at New Delhi.

Later he worked in the PIB and Ministry of Defence before joining as Director News in the DDK, Bhubaneswar.

During his tenure in the Bhubaneswar Doordarshan Kendra he had received the Asia Vision award for best coverage of Baripada fire tragedy and the 1999 super cyclone in Orissa.

Rout was extremely popular among mediapersons.
