Probe team reports corruption in management of Ajmer Dargah

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) Widespread corruption in the management of the country's most revered Sufi shrine, Dargah Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer, has been found by an inquiry committee appointed by the Government.

The probe had been set up last year after several complaints of irregularities against the Managing Committee Members were received by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

The findings were handed over to Minister A R Antulay amid speculations that the Dargah Committee might be dissolved.

The Ministry was studying the report to decided the further course of action, sources in the Ministry told UNI.

The panel in its report to the Ministry named the members who misused their position to divert money from the Dargah Khwaja Saheb Fund to purposes other than the upkeep of the shrine and welfare of pilgrims.

It found serious financial irregularities also in awarding the lease of Gharib Nawaz Restaurant.

The committee, which had been appointed about nine months back, also reported that the Management of the Dargah has not kept any records properly.

The Government had recently replaced the Nazim(Administrator)of the Dargah.

Dargah Khwaja Saheb is one of the most famous sufi shrines of the world where pilgrims from all corners of the country, and also from abroad flock to throughout the year.

The offerings to the shrine go into crores annually.
