Privilege case against eveninger referred to Privileges Committee

Chennai, May 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly today referred to the Privileges Committee, the breach of privilege case against 'Tamil Murasu', an eveninger of the Dinakaran group of newspapers.

After Mr C Gnanasekaran (Congress) moved the breach of privilege case against the eveninger for distorting Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's statement that the CBI would inquire into the May 9 Madurai violence, Speaker R Avudaiyappan referred it to the Committee.

The Speaker said that prima facie, there was a breach of privilege and he was referring it to the Committee for further action.

Earlier, Mr Gnanasekaran said that when Mr Karunanidhi had said that the CBI would inquire into the incident, the eveninger had, on May 10, distorted the statement by involving the Chief Minister's Madurai-based son M K Azhagiri in connection with the violence and killing of three staff members of Dinakaran.
