PM accepts Maran resignation

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tonight accepted Communications and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran's resignation and forwarded it to President A P J Abdul Kalam.

Mr Maran faxed his resignation last night to the PMO from Ooty, where he was camping.

The resignation came after the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu yesterday sought the removal of Mr Maran from the Cabinet for violating party discipline and tarnishing its image.

The party action against Mr Maran, grand nephew of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, came four days after 'Dinakaran', a daily owned by the minister's elder brother Kalanidhi Maran, was attacked in Madurai in which three people were killed.
