Pay cash compensation to those injured in troops firing in J

Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Jammu and Kashmir government to pay cash compensation to those who were injured in indiscriminate firing by security forces in 2000 in Rajouri.

The direction came on a petition filed by the injured persons through Nissar Hussain alleging that several people were injured when security forces resorted to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing on peaceful demonstrators.

The chairman of the SHRC after hearing the argument directed the government to pay Rs 75,000 each to four persons--Shabir Hussain, Nissar Ahmad, Farooq Riyaz and Abdul Rashid-- who were disabled due to firing.

The commission also recommnded that other injured person be paid Rs ten thousand each within a month.
