Diphu, May 14: One person was shot and another kidnapped by a few unidentified miscreants in Karbi Anglong district of Asom today.

In the first incident, a driver of the autonomous council operated passenger bus was abducted by suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants at about 1030 hours from Phoolani, about 100 km from Diphu.

The driver, driving a bus from Diphu to Langhing, was forced out of the bus, assaulted and taken away by the militants, police said.

However, none of the passengers were harmed.

Meanwhile, a casual employee in the office of the Joint Director of Fisheries (Hills) in Diphu was shot by three unknown assailants at about 1120 hours.

Police informed that the victim had gone to fetch tea from a nearby shop when he was shot from close range.

One bullet hit him in the abdomen while the other brushed past his hand.

He was rushed to the Diphu Civil hospital, from where he is being shifted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.

Police suspected personal rivalry to be the cause of the attack.
