NASSCOM hails Maran

Chennai, May 14 (UNI) NASSCOM today hailed Union Communications and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran, who has resigned from the Union Cabinet yesterday, for the key role played by him in sustaining the growth of the IT industry over the last three years.

In a statement here, NASSCOM, on behalf of the Indian IT industry, said Mr Maran had been instrumental in reinforcing India's position as a premier destination for IT outsourcing and taking great interest in promoting the growth of the domestic IT market.

His efforts have resulted in India becoming an increasingly prime location for the hardware industry also.

During his tenure, Mr Maran had considerably strengthened the partnership between the Government and the industry in promoting the IT sector, NASSCOM said.

His role in bringing major positive changes in the telecom sector had been of great significance to the IT software and services industry. It had also resulted in India becoming the fastest growing mobile telephony market in the world, the release added.
