Mukhtar Ansari allowed to attend UP assembly proceedings

Ghazipur, May 14 (UNI) Controversial independent Uttar Pradesh MLA Mukhtar Ansari has been permitted by court to take oath and attend the forthcoming state assembly proceedings.

Mukhtar and his elder brother, Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari and brother-in-law Ejaj are the prime accused in the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder case.

Mukhtar was recently elected to the UP assembly from Mau constituency.

The two Ansari brothers were produced before Fast Track Court (I) judge Shaileshwar Nath Singh, who also permitted Afzal to undergo treatment at the AIIMS, New Delhi.

The judge said that the duo could be represented by their counsels in their absence.

Mukhtar would be lodged in Lucknow jail during his stay in the Uttar Pradesh capital for assembly proceedings.

Earlier, on a revision petition filed by CBI -- which is probing the Rai murder case -- the Allahabad High Court had stayed hearing in the Ghazipur Fast Track Court till further orders.
