Mother-daughter killed following wrong information: DIG

Muzaffarpur, May 14 (UNI) In a 'sensational' disclosure, Deputy Inspector General(DIG) of Police, Tirhut Range Gupteshwar Pandey has admitted that the death of a mother and daughter duo in police firing in Sitamrhi district on July 16, 2005, was based on 'wrong information'.

In his supervisory report, DIG Pandey stated that the officer-in-charge of Riga police station had received a ''wrong'' information from a village Chowkidar that one Rakesh Sah in the village was a Maoist guerilla and several other Maoists had taken shelter in his house.

This information was given to the Chowkidar by one Bijendra Yadav, who, because of his long-standing rivalry with another person had deliberately mis-informed Chowkidar Sone Lal Paswan and some policemen, who in turn informed the OC of Riga police station.

As a result, the encounter took place that killed both the women.

The DIG's report had clearly mentioned that Birendra's conspiracy was overlooked by the police and two innocent lives were lost in the process. The recovery of firearms from the spot, as shown by the then Inspector of Sitamarhi Town police station, was also 'fictitious'.

In his report, Mr Pandey said that following a complaint filed by a relative of the deceased in a Sitamrhi Court, he had personally inquired into the case and found that the encounter was ''fake''.

''I have recommended suspension of the BMP jawans and the initiation of departmental proceedings against them,'' DIG Pandey added.
