Maran quits Cabinet after DMK decides so
Chennai, May 13 (UNI) A day of high drama climaxed tonight with the resignation of Union Communications and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran, the youngest Union Minister from the DMK, after the party administrative committee authorised its president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to take steps to withdraw him from the Cabinet.
Barely an hour after the administrative committee meeting, chaired by Mr Karunanidhi, passed the resolution, Mr Maran, who is away at Udagamandalam hill resort in Tamil Nadu, faxed his resignation letter to the Prime Minister's Office.
Mr Maran in a statement here thanked the DMK and the people of Tamil Nadu for giving him an opportunity to serve in the Union Cabinet for the last three years. He said he performed his duties as a Minister to the best of his ability.
