Maran great friend of IT sector: Nasscom

Bangalore, May 14 (UNI) The voice of IT industry in India, NASSCOM, today lauded the positive and important role played by Union Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran, who has tendered his resignation from the UPA Ministry, following developments in the DMK party.

Mr Maran had sent his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday in the wake of attack on Tamil Newspaper Dinakaran in which three persons were killed.

In a statement here NASSCOM, reacting to the report of the minister's resignation, said Mr Maran had been a great champion and friend of the Indian IT sector.

The statement said: ''NASSCOM, on behalf of the Indian IT industry, would like to put on record its appreciation of the very positive and important role played by Mr. Maran in sustaining the growth of this industry over the last three years. He has been instrumental in reinforcing India's position as the premier destination for IT outsourcing and in taking great interest in promoting the growth of the domestic market for IT. His efforts have resulted in India becoming an increasingly important location for the IT hardware industry also''.

The IT industry body also commended the role of Mr. Maran in strengthening considerably the partnership between government and industry in promoting the IT sector in India .

It said NASSCOM looked forward to working as closely with Mr.

Maran's successor as it did with him.
