Jyotindra Mishra is UP's new Advocate General
Lucknow, May 14 (UNI) The newly-installed Mayawati government today appointed Jyotindra Mishra as the Advocate General (AG).
Mr Mishra will assume his charge with immediate effect, State Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said here.
A criminal lawyer with the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, Mr Mishra is at present is the president of the Awadh Bar Association.
Soon after the drubbing received by the Samajwadi Party in the just-held assembly elections, incumbant S M A Kazmi had tendered his resignation as the AG.
During the three-and-a-half year of rule, the SP government appinted two AGs. Virendra Bhatia resigned from his post after being elected to Rajya Sabha around a year ago, paving way for Mr Kazmi who served till May 11.
Bahujan Samaj Party general secretary Satish Chandra, being dubbed as the Man Friday of Ms Mayawati, was also the advocate general of UP during her previous stint as the Chief Minister.
