Goa polls: Rane renominated from Poriem

Panaji, May 14: The Central Election Committee of the Congresstoday renominated Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane to contest from Poriemconstituency in North Goa for the June 2 assembly elections.

Mr Rane is contesting from Poriem constituency, considered to behis citadel, for the seventh time since 1972. He has also the chiefminister five times, the only one to hold the distinction.

The party is yet to decide the fate of his son and GPCC generalsecretary Viswajit Rane, who had sought ticket from Valpoi segment.

The sitting MLA Karl Vaz, however, has been renominated from Mormugao constituency.

In a last minute change, the Congress nominated social worker andscheduled tribe candidate Govind Gawade in place of Ramachandra Mulefrom Madkai segment.

The Congress has announced the names of 33 candidates so far, asagainst 34 it wanted to field, leaving six seats to its coalitionpartner, the NCP.
