Farmer's son is civil services topper

Hyderabad, May 14 (UNI) IPS Probationer R Mutyala Raju has secured first rank in the civil services examinations, the results of which were announced in New Delhi today.

Speaking to UNI here, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) alumnus and son of a farmer in a remote village in Andhra Pradesh who completed his Masters in Engineering (ME) in 2002-04, attributed his success to the support of his roommates in the Police Academy.

''They gave me all kinds of assistance in the civil services examination preparation during the IPS probation in the academy'', he said.

Stating he had studied Telugu medium upto standard X in a government school at Chengallapalem Village in Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh, Raju said his father was a farmer and his mother a housewife.

''My aim is to serve the people of the country as a civil servant and uplift the poor living in villages during my service,'' the topper said. His options for the examinations were Mathematics and Electrical Engineering Sciences.

In 2004, Mr Raju was selected as an engineer in the Railways after successfully clearing the Indian Engineering Services (IES) Examinations. During his training period, Mr Raju started preparation for the civil services. He completed his BE from Regional Engineering College (REC), Warrangal in 2002.
