Eight die of sun stroke
Vijayawada, May 14 (UNI) Eight persons died of sun stroke in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh in the last four days due to heat wave conditions following rise in temperature.
In Vijayawada city, the temperature rose by four degrees today with the maximum temperature reaching 45 deg C vis-a-vis 41 deg C yesterday.
A met official told UNI that the heat wave conditions prevailing in coastal Andhra Pradesh since one week were due to dry winds from central part of India.
The minimum temperature recorded was 28.5 deg C, the official said, adding due to drop in the velocity of North-Western winds, there was a sharp rise in humidity level.
A report from Machilipatnam said the town maximum temperature recorded was 44.5 deg C and the minimum was 29.1 deg C.
People in the coastal belt villages in the district were facing acute drinking water problem since the wells and bore wells were dried up, the report added.
Eluru city recorded a maximum temperature of 44 deg C and a minimum of 34 deg C. The main arterial roads wore a deserted look due to the severe heat, the report added.
