Eight die in road accident in Orissa

Sambalpur, May 14 (UNI) Eight people were killed and 13 injured, some of them seriously, when a jeep collided head on with a truck near Jharsuguda industrial town, about 70 kms from here today.

Police said the accident took place when the jeep was going to Sundargarh. All the eight people died on the spot. The injured were immediately shifted to the Jharsuguda hospital.

All the deceased are yet to be identified.

Soon after the accident local people put up road blockade protesting against frequent accidents at the spot.

The irate people also gheraoed the Jharsuguda police station.

Police said the situation in the town was tense but under control.

Senior police officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation and prevent any untoward incident.
