Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) Members of the Standing committee in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today said that the Deonar dumping ground was in a very bad shape.

They alleged mass corruption in the various tenders that come up for the cleaning of the Deonar dumping ground.

In a meeting of the standing committee, the issue of appointing a consultant was raised for the cleaning of the dumping ground.

Congress Corporator from Colaba Vinod Shekhar said the consultant appointed for the cleaning of the garbage is not doing his job properly. He said IFLS is a financial consultant and engaging him for the Deonar projec was a wrong idea as they had given a variation of 15 per cent in its proposal. The Deonar dumping ground has 10,40,000 cubic mt of garbage and the contract for cleaning 8,00,000 cubic metre has been given to the concerned consultant.

Other corporators present in the meeting alleged that the BMC was not doing it's job properly and the administration had wasted a lot of money in the cleaning of dumping ground. Waqrunissa Ansari, Congress Corporator from Vile Parle said, ''The working condition of people at the dumping ground should improve,'' they said.

Mr Shekhar said each and every tender pertaining to the dumping ground is given to a particular contractor and an police or State CID inquiry must be initiated into it.
