Cop denied bail in wife bashing case

Bangalore, May 14 (UNI) A city court today rejected bail to a police circle inspector who was arrested on charges of assaulting his wife and demanding dowry from her family.

Earlier in the day Vijaynagar Police arrested three persons, the main accused, Srinidhi, Inspector of Fraser Town Police Station, his mother and brother on the two charges.

The arrests were made following a complaint filed by the father of Inspector's wife, who had also lodged a complaint with the State Women Commission to probe into the incident.

The woman who was allegedly beaten up by the official had been hospitalised with bruises.

The inspector's wife Jyothi was married to the police officer nine years ago and the couple had an eight-year-old son.

When the arrested were produced before the Additional City Metropolitan Magistrate, the judge refused bail to the police officer and his brother, while their mother was granted bail in view of her health condition.

The duo were remanded to judicial custody till May 25.
