BMC PRO dies in road accident

Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Chief Public Relation Officer Dadasaheb Shivjatak (54) was killed today in a road accident at Kharghar, while he was on his way to Mumbai from his native place Sangli.

Mr Shivjatak got hit by a truck, while he was pouring water in his car. He was badly injured and taken to a Panvel hospital, where he was given the required d treatment, but could not be saved.

Born on June 1 1953, Shivjatak joined the BMC as an Assistant PRO on April 21,1982 and was promoted as a Deputy PRO on December 1 1988.

He was then promoted to the post of the Chief PRO on March 6 1990.

He was considered an important link between the journalists and the administration. The corporators and the journalists alike were shocked to know about the demise and many of them were waiting at Kurla for his dead body to arrive. He is survived by his wife and three children.

''He was a very quiet man and was away from controversies,'' said BMC leader of opposition Raj Hans Singh. The councillor of the ward where Shivjatak lived Rajendra Ladwhere said, ''The people of Kurla west were not aware of Shivjatak's stature in the BMC and it was only because of the BMC's vehicle that was there at his disposal that the people came to know about him working in the BMC at a senior position.'' The Standing Committee members offered condolences to Shivjatak after the standing committee meeting and observed two minutes of silence.
