Vajra Corps conducts exercise 'Shatrunash' in Punjab

Some where in Western Sector, May 13 (UNI) With an aim to evaluate operational skills of the troops, coordination and synergy between the Army and the Air Force, an exercise code named 'Shartrunash' is being conducted by the Vajra Corps in the Western Sector.

The exercise, which started on May 11 would conclude tomorrow.

Approximately 15,000 troops of Vajra Corps are participating in the exercise being conducted in an area of 40km by 40km on the banks of river Sutlej in area around Nakodar, Ludhiana and Jagraon in Punjab.

Brig D Vashishta told media persons here today that the concept of swift military operations to achieve objectives in quick time, in wars that could come at a short notice, was successfully tested by the Army during 'Shatrunash'.

He said during exercise, new weapon systems and surveillance equipment were fielded in combat like situations to practice troops for their operational tasks in developed terrain and also to acheive coordination and synergy among different Corps of the Army and the Air Force.

Brig Vashishta informed that it was a two sided exercise involving troops of the Pine Division and Flaning Arrow Armoured Brigade and elements of Air Force.

About the benefits of such exercise, Brig Vashishta said,''It is the live training of men, equipments and resources. We learn a lot and educate ourselves from such exercise. Also it build confidence of the commanders and troops and we make good rapport with local people during this time.'' UNI
