Two marriage groups clash in Vadodara
Vadodara, May 13 (UNI) A minor dispute between members of two marriage groups led to a flare-up at Panigate area here early today with both groups indulging in stone pelting in which at least 12 people, including two policemen, were injured.
One group had taken out a procession which passed by a house where a marriage reception was also being hosted.
However, the loud music played by the band of the processionists disturbed the marriage reception party of the second group.
Objections were raised which led to the flare-up. The incident occurred barely 100 feet away from the Panigate police station.
Panigate police sub-inspector S B Rabari and his team rushed to the scene but the mob attacked the cops too. Mr Rabariand constable Ishwar Bhailalbhai were injured in the stone throwing.
The police, thereafter, burst 17 teargas shells and an injured Bhailalbhai fired five rounds into the air from his rifle to disperse the mobs.
In the ensuing melee, the violent mob completely damaged a police vehicle and also set three handcarts in the vicinity on fire.
Two autorickshaws were also burnt.
Mr Rabari has filed a complaint against at least 200 people, from both groups. The situation now is reported to be under control.
