Tribal students' blockade from tonight

Imphal, May 13 (UNI) An indefinite economic blockade, called by the All Tribal Students' Union of Manipur(ATSUM), will begin tonight on the two national highways (NH 39 and 53) of Manipur.

The Kuki Students Organisation(KSO) had also extended support to the decision of the ATSUM.

The KSO pledged to exercise all power at its disposal to enforce the blockade if the government fails to fulfil the demand of the tribal students.

The tribal students had earlier demanded the re-introduction of the Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services for SC and ST Bill in the ongoing Assembly session.

The KSO activists were also ready to ensure full blockade on the highways, unless an amicable solution is reached between the government and ATSUM on the issue.

The ATSUM had alleged that there were irregularities in the reservation of SC and ST.
