Transporters call two-day 'chakka bandh'
Imphal, May 13 (UNI) The Transporters and Drivers' Council, Manipur, has called a 48-hour 'chakka bandh'(transport strike) in Manipur on May 14 and 15 to oppose frequent harassment of commuters by miscreants on the national highway in Asom, Nagaland and Manipur.
Council sources further added that the bandh extended to all sort of commercial and private vehicles.
Inter-state bus services would also be cancelled for the next two days.
The Council has appealed to all to stop harassment of drivers and transporters by all to ensure regular supply of food and essential items.
''There are about 40 check points from Asom to Manipur and most vehicles have to pay about Rs 4,000 to the militants, miscreants and government check points, making it hard for the transporters,'' a member of a transport agency said here.
The Council had made an appealed to the miscreants to stop harassing the commuters.
