TN Minister joins issue with Jaya on jubilee fete
Chennai, May 13 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister and DMK Treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy today joined issue with AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa who demanded the DMK make public the expenditure incurred on golden jubilee celebrations in legislature of DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
In a statement here, Mr Veerasamy pointed out he had already clarified the entire expenditure on the celebrations including printing of mega invitations would be met by the golden jubilee celebration committee.
He also took strong exception to Ms Jayalalithaa's allegation that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC President Sonia Gandhi wasted tax payers money for travelling to Chennai by a special IAF aircraft. Mr Veerasamy wanted to know if Ms Jayalaithaa had spent the huge amount incurred on her foster son's wedding from her own income.
Recalling that in 2004, a private firm awarded Ms Jayalalithaa the ''Thanga Tharagai'' Award for which 'huge expenditure was incurred,' he wanted to know whether this was met by Ms Jayalalithaa.
When Former Chief Minister MGR's portrait was unveiled in the State Assembly, Ms Jayalalithaa was sitting on the Speaker's chair while her personal aide Sasikala was sitting in the Ministers row violating democratic traditions, he claimed saying she also had the credit of making the then Speaker genuflect before her.
Mr Veerasamy further claimed having lost all Constitutional qualifications, Ms Jayalaithaa took oath as Chief Minister and sitting inside the House, passed several orders and tarnished the sanctity of the House and democratic traditions.
She also 'insulted' the Constitution. Persons with such reputation had no moral right to seek expenditure account for the jubilee celebrations.
