Police to curb bootlegging menace in Andaman
Port Blair, May 13: In an effort to curb the menace of boot legging in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, the archipelago police launched special drive to end the menace.
As many as 63 Excise cases have been registered while 63 persons including 13 females have been arrested.
A total of 325 bottles (750 ml) of illicit liquor, 431 bottles of IMFL, 44 kgs illicit 'handia' were recovered, Mr Ashok Chand, the Superintendent of Police in Andaman, told newspersons today.
Mr Chand said more such raids would be conducted in coming days, especially in jungles of remote islands of this archipelago.
Alcohols are banned in some islands of Andaman and Nicobar Chain, which are dominated by Tribal population and are marked as Tribal Reserved areas.
