Agartala, May 13 (UNI) In order to promote Northeast tourism in the European Union and know about the hospitality management in developed nations, the Federation of Industry and Commerce of North East Region (FINER) has sent a 22-member delegation on a weeklong tour to Europe.

FINER officials here today said the tour programme was aimed at apprising the tour operators of the region about the standard of tourism and hospitality in European countries as well as to promote the multi-dimensional nature of NE, including medical and monsoon tourism, in the European countries.

The team would comprise tour operators from all the NE states, and the traders would try to replicate the international hospitality standard to give a fillip to tourist inflow from the European countries to the NE.

The delegation embarked on the tour on May 9 and was slated to visit several important circuits in Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein and Germany and also to interact with travel and tourism professionals in the countries.

European entrepreneurs had expressed their interest to invest in the tourism sector of NE, while FINER was also interested in bridging the gap between the investors and tourism sector of the region, FINER officials said.

Besides, the tour would help the tour operators in the region give first-hand information to the people back home who were interested in visiting tourist destinations in Europe, FINER officials said.

The foreign tourists inflow had been increasing in the region during the past few years. About 11,151 foreigners visited the region in 2006, which was only 6,171 in 2001.
