NDPS Act needs strictly implementation, says High Court
Kullu, May 13 (UNI) A judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court today stressed the need for effective and strict implementation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for making the society drugs-free.
Presiding over the three-day Workshop on NDPS Act and related issues at Nagwain, near here, Justice DD Sood said the objective of the workshop is to generate awareness among public about the Act and achieve coordination among investigating officers, prosecution and courts for its effective implementation.
He said it was the duty of every citizen to cooperate with the authorities to root out the evil of drugs from the society and its availability in the state.
Besides creating awareness in the society, it was also necessary to get to the root causes of the practice.
Participating in the workshop, Law Principal Secretary J N Barowalia said panchayat pradhans, forest officers, forest guards and circle patwaries could play a significant role in providing information about the production and sale of drugs to the concerned officers and could help in checking the practice.
State DGP Ashwani Kumar, ADGP D S Minhas, Registrar General Aruna Kapoor, were also present in the workshop.
