Mr Balakrishna Shetty CPM candidate for Ullal byelection

Bangalore, May 13(UNI) Veteran labour leader Mr J Balakrishna Shetty will be the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate for June Two byelection to the Ullal Assembly seat, CPM State Secretary G N Nagaraj said today.

Speaking to newsmen here, he said that Mr Shetty was involved in labors movement for several years in Dakshina Kannada district struggled for welfare of Beedi workers in the region.

Replying to a question, he said that Mr Nagaraj said that party has better chance as it had always fought against communal forces and involved in various labor, peasant and women movement.

About the possible support from JD(S), Mr Nagaraj said that party would welcome support coming from all the secular forces.

The byelection was necessitated following the demise of sitting Congress member U T Fareed. While BJP and Congress have announced their nominees, the JD(S) was yet to take a decision in naming the candidate.
