Mayawati suspends two IAS officers during Ambedkar Memorial visit

Lucknow, May 13 (UNI) The Mayawati juggernaut started rolling as within hours of taking oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, she suspended two senior officials of the state government during her visit to Ambedkar Memorial, her dream project in the state capital.

Senior IAS officer and former principal secretary(PWD) Satish Kumar Agarwal and Lucknow Development Authority(LDA) vice-chairman B B Singh were suspended immediately after Ms Mayawati visited the Ambedkar Memorial.

Action is also expected to be taken against a retired Nirman Nigam managing director R S Yadav.

Mr Agarwal is presently principal Secretary (Sales Tax) while Mr Singh also holds additional charge of Secretary, housing.

The two officials were suspended for neglect in the maintenance of the monument.

''It is unfortunate that these officials have tried to cover up the irregularities by inferior repair works within last two days,'' she said during her half an hour visit to the Ambedkar Memorial in Gomti Nagar area of the city.

''I won't tolerate such negligence and these officials should be punished,'' she said adding that further enquiry has been ordered to find out it others were also behind the irregularities.

She was accompanied by her family members and other senior leaders of the party.
