Low pressure turns to depression near Gopalpur coast

Bhubaneswar, May 13 (UNI) A well-marked low pressure area over East Central Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood has concentrated into a depression and lay centered at about 750 km south-east of Gopalpur.

'' The system is likely to intensify further and move in a northerly direction and create a condition favourable for onset of South-West monsoon over the South-West Bay, some more parts of the South-East Bay, the East-Central Bay and most parts of Andaman sea during the next 48 hours,'' meteorological sources here said.

Under impact of the depression, rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places over Orissa during the next 48 hours.

The authorities had hoisted distant cautionary signal number one at Gopalpur and Paradip port as a precautionary measure.
